My talk title is " Cyberinfrastructure, where bioinformatics meets system biology "

Bioinformatics is becoming data intensive science (eScience) from traditional support of mainstream experimental research to combining computational analysis, simulation, and modeling (on top of data integration) which drive a new era of in silico experimentation and hypothesis testing (cyberinfrastructure). This is a major component in system biology which aims for a holistic, quantitative, and predictive understanding of complex biological problems through iterative analysis of mathematical model prediction and experimental results. To date, numerous efforts have been done to integrate '-omics' data but with only limited success. The major difficulty comes from the data heterogeneity due to system, technical and social complexity. Recent few years many big initiatives are funded to develop such cyberinfrastructures, eg, iPlant, DOE system biology knowledgebase, integrated breeding platform. A general review will be given on these efforts and some special work at IRRI to support crop breeding.
