Personal assistant

The Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology (IGDB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS),is seeking to appoint a personal assistant to work with the newly appointed ‘1000 talents Professor’ John Speakman (http://sourcedb.genetics.cas.cn/zw/zjrck/201108/t20110831_3330423.html).

The main role of the position will be to provide support on a daily basis to Professor Speakman and his research group. A major part of the job will involve translating materials from Chinese into English, and the reverse, notably grant applications. Consequently a good command of both written and spoken English will be essential for the position. In addition because most of the documents requiring translation will be scientific in nature, involving complex terms that will need accurate translation, a solid background in animal biology (Masters or PhD level) preferably with some experience of molecular aspects or bioinformatics is also essential. Firsthand knowledge of the grant funding system in China would be a distinct advantage. The successful candidate may be required to spend some time in the UK, and also travel to meetings outside Beijing, during tenure of the position.
